No ESPECIALLY does not mean, "I'm going to keep throwing ideas and characters at you regardless of how many times you politely decline an RP."
And no EXTRA SUPER does not mean, "Let me spam you with dozens of pics taken from random tabletop RPGs to give you a better idea of my poorly written and poorly developed characters who are pretty much ALL THE SAME GUY, just with a different hair style. Oh, and scales. Don't forget scales."
Also, here's a tip. Internet RP is not tabletop RPG. Please learn the difference. Thanks.

This rant comes from years of seeing Sue pets over many different fandoms which do not necessarily belong to real Sue OC's. The OC's, however, tend to have some Sue qualities without being nauseating. For simplicity, I'll use a cat for my example. I own two cats IRL, and they are capable of doing surprisingly intelligent things...almost to the point of being creepy. Most of the time, though? They fall gracelessly off the top shelf of their cat tree because they're rolling around trying to look cute, spend hours trying to catch a little red ball of light on the floor, sit on the rim of the bathtub with their tails in the water and then wig out because their tails are wet, and refuse to stop chewing on power cords. They also sit on the toilet or on top of the fridge and yowl at 2am, poop on my bed if I'm away for more than three weeks (I have a petsitter), barf only on the carpeted areas of the apartment, and scratch on the window screens. I understand the desire to make your pet smarter than the average bear and more special than the average unicorn, but how about throwing a few reality candy sprinkles on top of the sugary ball of fur? Sure pets can be trained to do extraordinary things, and sometimes they do out of the world shit on their own. But this is not a Meow Mix commercial, your cat is not going to leave a voicemail on your blackberry singing the themesong. Nor is your cat going to wake you up in the middle of the night and lead you to the attic where your grandfather's old army pistol is hidden because there's some strange dude creeping around your rose bushes. Yes, cats have amazing senses, and they can probably tell when you're about to go into insulin shock...but they're not going to dig through the pantry and bring you a cookie. The pets are Sues. Period. Even in fandoms with cannon magic pets that are extraordinary, these superpets are Sues. They may have unique and rare fur coloring instead of raven hair and violet eyes. They always have an intimate connection with their owners that basically makes them telepathic; owner ponders the idea of beer, cat suddenly appears with beer for owner. They don't have flaws unless it makes them look cute or cool, and they can materialize at the owner's side regardless of where they are to protect them from harm. They invariably try to thread-jack the rp, and usually bring info back to their owner from threads they were never supposed to be in. The question is, does that make the OC owner of the superpet a Sue? The owners I'm referring to are not blatant Sues themselves, but they do approach the fence and sometimes push on it without actually crossing into the sparklie pastures of Suedom. Now, since they're already at the fence, does the Sue-pet push them over and define them as a Sue? And what about the OC's who don't really have Sue qualities other than the Sue-pet?

I should have stated it, my bad. =/ The pets aren't NPC's, they're actually owned by the OC. For example: Annie is a rebel fighter in the "Scorpion King" universe, and she owns a pure white Burmese. She's the only one who plays the cat. She's trained it to carry secret messages to her allies across the desert, all she has to do is speak the name and the cat will find the person. Since Annie's a spy herself the cat protects her from other assassins. It is always at her side, and instinctively knows what to do in case of trouble.
Now, Annie is a little Sue-ish, but her mun's not that bad of a player. The cat, however...is just fucking irritating. It's not a breed that even exists yet, the color is very uncommon, it's portrayed as basically super-human with just the physical feats it can accomplish without ever getting that pretty white coat dirty, it always knows just what Annie wants without her even having to say anything, etc, etc. That's my gripe. When used responsibly, superpets are tons of fun for all...but when their powers are abused it makes me want to stab that person in the face.
The weird juxtaposition is that half the time Annie isn't really a Sue, it's her damn cat. Since she's the one controlling the cat, does that make Annie a Sue? Or just really bad at writing pets? I guess I just wanted your thoughts on it, I don't really expect a "Yes, she IS!" or "No she ISN'T" definite answer. It just gets me all kinds of pissed off when all I want to say is "You know...your OC would be pretty cool without that f*ing cat..."
You are playing Nathan from Misfits. Well that's fair enough. More then fair enough, actually- it's a badass show and it's nice to see someone else getting into it.

You. You make my brain bleed. I understand the want to play that character. It's a popular movie, and he's a popular character, and the PB is gorgeous and most people love him. I can even understanding wanting to take the character in the direction you did as an AU - it's an interesting concept, though I wish there had been more back story as to WHY he'd decided to follow that path.
However, there is a difference between playing a character in an AU and playing an OC with a canon character's name and face. If you wanted to play a simpering, confrontational, over-eager and passionate emotional character, you probably shouldn't have picked the character from that movie that is based completely on not being emotional. Even following this "au" that you've created would not suddenly make the character super!emotional, due to how he was raised/the other half of his family.
So, if you want to play a canon character, at least try to make them a little like the character you're trying to play, and if you want to play someone that is the absolute opposite in every way, well, make an OC with the character's face.

Since we spend so much time with bad RPers, I think this community needs a directory of GOOD RPers and communities. If, for example, someone wanted to find a decent place for canon-based Harry Potter RP, they could check the list of places BRPS players recommend.
Just a suggestion; mods, feel free to delete if this post is too off-topic.

I'm not a n00b. I don't need the psuedo-motivational crap you spout at people who are too shy to jump into RP. I'm just looking for hotspots and group recommendations. No wonder no one likes to RP in this game if you can't even pay attention to the three or four sentences that I wrote.

Dear site that I have been on for the last year and a half that I used to love.
I realize you started out as a gaming site. But you chose a game that still hasn't come out and you've been waiting for for however many years. In the meantime, you decided to open it up to RPers, in hopes that it would save the site.
And it did for quite a few years.
But then you decided to say that RPers are not gamers, and therefore not full members of the site. And that if we don't bump the RP quota up, we have the potential to lose our RP forums.
Nevermind that I alone have at LEAST 50,000 words sunk into my character. Nevermind that one of my friends has at least 75,000 words for hers. Nevermind that our characters are two of the most interesting characters ON this darn site. Nevermind that four of us have been asked if we'll ever try to publish our works, focusing on our RP characters because, yes, we are that good, especially when you stick the four of us together.
But apparently, the RPers are killing the site. Which is news to me.
And now, after alienating the RPers, some of us have created our own site- and now we're in trouble because we dare create a safe haven where we don't have to worry about our forums being deleted, and we asked friends to RP with us. Yes, friends from you. But guess what? The five most recent posts in your RP? Was done by us- even though we're on a new site. Some of us RPers that you consider a waste of oxygen are still trying to keep your site alive. But four RPers can't keep things going for forever. We can only do so much.
And now, having someone say that as much as no one wants to alienate a group, it might have to be done, for the good of the community? We know which group will be alienated.
So fine. Alienate us. Ostracize us. Tell us we aren't full members of your site. We have another playground to play on. And in two months, our site will still be growing, and yours will be a memory.
And you'll only have yourselves to blame.

vetinari is a cool guy and yes he almost certainly could sweep my character off her feet within moments of meeting her. i'm not disputing that.
but when vetinari himself is randomly wandering into the (quite down-market) workplace of an eighteen year old seamstress who is as of right now completely unremarkable, you kind of have to step back and look at what you're doing. my pb might be pretty, but surely he could do better!
on an unrelated note and to an unrelated person, STOP BEING SO FUCKING BATSHIT CRAZY. i seriously regret bringing you to this game and introducing you to my other rp friends. i don't know what told me you'd be LESS dramatic, controlling and downright ridiculous to other people than you are to me, but clearly it was a lying bastard.

I don't know... it may just me, but the point of RPing is to interact with other characters... not just obsess and talk about your own. It's like my character is just some disembodied voice that she replies to out of obligation. Never mind that my character has more personality than her and her undead consorts have in their entire wordy paragraphs all about themselves. I try to make an effort to connect with her or get her character to notice or even interact in a semi-conscience way with mine, but I guess her's is too superior.

No. When you are pursuing a plotline that could (and most likely will) have dire consequences for your character and possibly other people's, you cannot just post an open thread and wait for someone to reply. Here's a hint: nobody's going to. You did not discuss this with anybody. Nobody agreed to this. Nobody is interested because, frankly, it's obvious that the only thought you've put into this is "OH SQUEEEEEE LOOK WHAT MY CHARACTER GETS TO DO IT'S SO COOL~~~," while completely ignoring the fact there's no way he'd walk away from this alive.
Furthermore, your character's actions make no sense. He's supposed to be clever and crafty, no? Then why is he walking straight into a situation where he will, no doubt, be killed, when there are much safer and much easier ways to go about things?
Don't be surprised when everyone ignores your post.

For a moment, let's disregard the fact that your character is an eighteen year old college student, and mine is a twenty six year old police officer. Let's disregard the fact that my application clearly states that I'm straight. Let's disregard the fact that your character and mine have known eachother for all of two days.
Putting that all aside, you do understand that as of right now our party is kinda focused on finding a way out of the mall that we're trapped in, right? You know, before the FUCKING ZOMBIE HORDE outside gets in and eats us all?

Dear RPers I don’t know:
It is very cool that you want to play with my character! I am totally all for this, I love playing with new people and said character is fairly friendly, meaning that he’ll converse with just about anyone who comes his way.
Really, all you have to do to start an interaction with him is have your character approach him and start talking. He’s a bit of a jerk sometimes but he loves a good conversation, and I love it when he meets new people. If you want the interaction to go on from there, either invite my guy to do something additional or drop me a PM, and we can plot a bit.
It is absolutely not necessary for you to look at his boyfriend’s PB, profile, and name and immediately create a duplicate account, then comment to him hoping I won’t notice you’re not the same player. Not only does this look desperate and pathetic, it also makes me think that you believe I’m really, really stupid. I don’t appreciate it. I definitely don’t appreciate it being pulled on me twice in the same comm.
Seriously, what the shit is this? Is impersonating a character’s significant others the new RP meme, or what?

It's no secret that I take issue with your characterization.
But even with characterization aside.
There are ways to write UST, and ways to write pervstalkerness. You are writing the latter, and trying to call it the former, claiming the other mun wants it that way.
Your character going "WHY HELLO THERE, BOB, ARE YOU READY TO HAVE SEX WITH ME YET?" "I CARE ABOUT BOB. HE'S THE ONLY PERSON IN MY LIFE I FEEL ATTACHED TO. I WANNA HAVE SEX WITH HIM." "BOB! I AM GOING TO FOLLOW YOU AND BUG YOU UNTIL YOU HANG OUT WITH ME!" * is not UST. (And also not IC.)
And I know our canon is huge and sprawling and complex and full of mythology gags, but the corner of it that we're in is tiny, contained, and DOES NOT HAVE THAT DEITY YOU RANDOMLY MENTIONED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. Nor does it have any real implication of sex for the aliens we're playing-- romantic attraction, yeah, but SEX! gets a O_o face, in canon. Why, in this fairly serious and "try and keep as close to canon as possible!" game, does your character know what sex is, desire it, and execute it without fumbling about wondering what the hell all these bits are supposed to do. >8| Srsly.

anyway my ust-between-nonsexual-aliens is much more interesting and your characters are always flat and uninteresting and lifeless, no matter how cool they were in canon gdi sorry. D:

So uh. *rubs eyes* You ignored some of the site rules in your section? That...could be simple ignorance, I suppose, even when it turns out you were ignoring them full knowing it could have been an accident that one stat cheater slipped by you. But yeah, that's enough to get you booted off admin on at least probation.
The 'calling out' post toward every other section on the site that you posted (fortunately) in mod area, after you got removed from mod of your main section for metagaming, however, was definitely unwarranted. So were the three (count 'em!) on-board hissy-fits in varying degree of public places. (Hello, two-week ban!) And then my current development lieutenant private messages me and asks me to please come take a look because you deleted all your work when you made that whiny post there. (Fortunately, it was nothing I'm super-bothered about losing.)
And you're demanding we give you mod powers back?
Head, meet desk.
You metagamed information based off your vendetta of someone who most of admin has no love for but who happens to be a friend of mine. Strike one. You godmodded the NPCs of your fellow section mod. Strike two. You coerced other people to godmod, pitched fits all over the board, flounced out of all your remaining positions, started whining in public...
You know, I don't even know how many strikes you're on now. Just go. Please. And don't come back.
P.S. This is not even counting him siccing his on-site girlfriend on another admin who has been away for much of this and has no clue what is going on, and is just attempting to sort things out. And then siccing other people on his replacement admin, who he was mad at because the guy kept uncovering evidence for his bullshit. Yeah.

I know, there's a good chance I deserve this for where I RP, but I must ask... Why?
What makes you think that despite it being totally uncharacteristic of my character, that you can lure her into a seedy business relationship? I know the play we RP is a mishmash of characters of varying time points. But really, she's a aristocratic victorian woman. She has standards. It even says on her character website that it's a demand that she must be courted. What makes you so special that you think you can buy pass that? And even worse, what makes you think I will allow you to force her into 'submitting' to you. Non-consensual scares me. Hell, Rping sexual encounters in general makes me super uncomfortable. I've expressly told you this several times, that I'm often a 'Fade-To-Black' type person unless I am in a 'Lets try writing erotica' mood. And what's even worse, is you whisper me every day trying to force me into this. I don't care how sexy your character is. She doesn't find you appealing. I do love Rping with you, but I honestly am not going to put up with this much longer. In this place, there are hundreds of girls, and men, playing easy whores of every race, gender, fetish, and type. I bet you could get several of them at once for a mass RP in a jiff. Why do you insist on bothering me?

Dear you, who I have been rping with a year now.
You go the whole day without talking to me only to jump on me. You didn't say hi, or ask how I was or anything. I didn't IM you because you never talk to me anymore when all your other friends are on, nor do you want to rp with me when these vastly superior beings are around to rp with you. But I don't care, honestly, it's the way you acted when you finally did talk to me about the rp we've been working on before I was your lonely day role play partner. You know, when you actually liked me.
You IM me after being online for the whole entire day (IM'ing me at 1am.) and you tell me what you're going to do with fic we've been working on. A fic we've been writing as RP for over a year now. You don't even ask me about my opinion. You just tell me what you're going to do with it. Anything I mention gets met with basically a, "Yeah, well I'm doing this." Why did you even ask me where we were starting when you told me right after where YOU were going to start?
Why did you ask me anything when you discarded my thoughts right off the bat?
I'm also tired of the way you act about how everything is your idea on everything. Probably the reason that seems like such is that most of my ideas are tossed right out. But you know, I've written half of this two and I'm tired of being belittled.
Honestly, I'd rather it not be posted at all at this point of time if ever. I gave up on it. I've asked you for MONTHS to post something and quite frankly, I've entirely given up on the whole thing. We'll post one, maybe two, or three chapters at the most until you got bored with it.
I'd offer to edit it myself, in case you shove that in my face and tell me I never edit, but I know any editing I did would not be to your satisfaction because you want control over it all!
Then when I go quiet, you get all snarky and run off. Why didn't I respond? Well, easy, there was nothing for me to say. You already have your mind made up on this, so why ask me? I mean, I only wrote half of this, it's not like my opinion matters.
I'm done fighting with you. I'd very much like to have some input on this myself, but if you can't even afford me a little I really don't want our fic to be posted. It's not right and it's not fair. We had talked about these things before, it's not right for you to change YOUR mind and decide that's the way it's going to be.
What's really ironic is that I'm only the helper and sometimes coauthor on another person's rp fic, but she certainly gives me a whole heckuva lot more credit than you do. She also asks my opinion on things and takes my opinion into account.
I'm also tired of how jealous you get. You ignore me entirely, you don't want to rp anything with me anymore unless it's your idea. All of my ideas get tossed out. When I mention I'm writing a fic for a friend, you get all bent out of shape, telling me how when you wanted to rp that, I wasn't interested. When I say I don't remember this, you basically call me a liar and say that it happened before I broke up with my ex. I broke up with my ex in June. Seriously? You throw out my ideas for rp all the time, but yet if I dare say no to you, you act like I kicked your dog and you harbor it until infinity.
I honestly don't know what to do about you. If I say anything, it'll just be a huge fight, but I really don't want our RP posted at this point, not when we can't even talk to each other. I feel like if I say no, you'll post it anyways, and what will come of it will be something that'll end up on fandom wank.

Look. The point at which to question my character's ability to pick up and run off with your big heavy thing is before - or even during - the theft. Not after you have already ICly given up on trying to stop me. And certainly not after you've ICly left the area.
At that point, it just looks like you're trying to whine at me to give it back. Which...if it's so important to you, why did you give up on trying to stop me in favor of providing support for the guy who's already escaping safely?
Did you just realize that maybe handing over your shiny, heavy piece of tech to me - and, as a result, my boss - wasn't such a bright idea? 'Cause it's a little late to do anything about it now.
Oh, and by the way? My character can control air and gravity, in addition to the whole bit where he's a large robot. He's totally capable of picking up your two-ton whatsit and running off with it, even if he is seriously injured.
